Crazy Palm Trees Book Description: William Faulkner's unique novel, Crazy Palm Trees, consists of two long stories whose events, people and places are completely different but still deeply connected with each other. Faulkner, who always tried different narrative styles in his works, designed these stories titled "Crazy Palm Trees" and "Irmak Baba" as parts of a single novel and arranged the chapters alternately. The first of the stories tells the story of a man and a woman in forbidden love trying to escape from the pressure of society, while the second tells the story of a prisoner torn between gaining his freedom and saving the life of a pregnant woman. In Crazy Palms, Faulkner creates an unforgettable symphony in which taking life and saving life, seeking freedom and sacrificing freedom are intertwined. Faulkner says the following about his novel published in 1939: “As soon as I finished the first part of 'Crazy Palm Trees', I saw that something was missing, that the story needed to be reinforced, strengthened with a method similar to counterpoint in music. Thereupon, I wrote 'Irmak Baba' until the story in 'Crazy Palms' came to life again. Then, when I came to the end of the first chapter of 'Irmak Baba', I abandoned it and returned to 'Crazy Palm Trees' and continued writing until it started to lose its strength again. Then, I revived and strengthened 'Crazy Palms' by writing another chapter of 'Irmak Baba', which is its 'antithesis'.” (From the Promotional Bulletin)
